Camillo Ricordi, Diabetes Research Institute, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, USA
Dr. Camillo Ricordi is Professor and Director of the Diabetes Research Institute, and Cell Transplant Program, University of Miami. He developed the method for human pancreatic islet isolation and led the team that performed the first successful islet (allo) transplants in 1990. He spearheaded The Diabetes Research Institute Federation (www.diabetesresearch.org) and The Cure Alliance (www.thecurealliance.org) to eliminate barriers to collaboration and the development of cures for diseases now afflicting humankind. Dr. Ricordi’s research interests include immune tolerance, cellular therapies, stem cells and regenerative medicine. Dr. Ricordi has received numerous honors and awards, authored over 700 scientific publications and serves as Editor-in-Chief of CellR4 (www.cellr4.org).
