Emily Liman

Emily Liman earned her A.B. in Biology from Princeton University, her Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Harvard Medical School, and received postdoctoral training with Dr. Linda Buck at Harvard Medical School. She has been on the faculty at the University of Southern California since 1999. Professor Liman has identified and characterized the ion channels that function as receptors or downstream effectors for sensory signaling, focusing on the chemical senses of taste, pheromones, olfaction and trigeminal chemoreception. Most recently, she identified a family of proton channels and showed that one of them, OTOP1, functions as a sour receptor. Among her honors, Dr. Liman was recently named as the recipient of the Cole award from the Biophysical society.
